To promote civic pride to its residents, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Streetcare team organised
environmental days themed around Doctor Who and the effect our actions today can have on the
future of the County Borough.
The Love Where You Live event provided fun and engaging opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in green issues. Visitors were offered a fun-filled, family day-out with lots of activities including a climbing wall, live themed performances from X Factor's Tom Richards, Cardiff Blues development officers and Cardiff City Football in the Community training sessions, solar-powered mini cinema, Techniquest science experiments and much more. The biggest attraction was the attempt to break the world record for the biggest (11ft tall) Dalek made out of used drinks cans. This was a huge success and a big hit with the youngsters.
The Council's Streetcare team held fun workshops on recycling, littering, graffiti and dog fouling, highlighting the issues that they are faced with everyday and hopefully educating residents to think about their actions and join in the fight against waste.
The RCT Streetcare team see events like this as well as the Envirovision Song Quest competition and our Love Where You Live awards as new and innovative ways of inspiring people to care more about the space they live in and help people understand the impact our actions can have on generations to come and the environment that they will grow up in.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is committed to ensuring residents of all ages are aware ofthe role they play in improving their environment and how we must all work together to ensure our County Borough is a clean, green place to live, work and visit.
