COVID-19 business support in 2020-21

Following the Auditor General’s audit of the accounts of Welsh Ministers, we have prepared an additional memorandum.
In his report as part of the Welsh Government Consolidated Accounts 2020-21 [opens in new window], the Auditor General drew attention to issues relating to business grants provided in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the Welsh Government’s estimate of the level of fraud and error.
We have prepared a memorandum for the Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee (PAPAC) to set out some additional information and support scrutiny of the Consolidated Accounts 2020-21.
In this memorandum we outline:
- why the Welsh Government provided financial support to businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic;
- how much financial support the Welsh Government provided during 2020-21 and for what purposes;
- how the Welsh Government is following up on risks relating to fraud and error; and
- how the Welsh Government is evaluating the impact of its financial support.
