As part of Apprenticeship Week Wales, we’re taking time to reflect on the valuable opportunities apprenticeships offer, both for individuals and for our organisation.
We spoke to two colleagues who work closely with, and mentor, our apprentices to hear their perspectives. Here’s what they had to say.
"An apprenticeship with Audit Wales presents an excellent opportunity to gain practical work experience alongside studying for a recognised qualification, all while earning a salary. Apprentices benefit from comprehensive support throughout their journey, being paired with buddies, mentors, and line managers who offer invaluable guidance and share their expertise at every stage.
At Audit Wales, apprentices contribute significantly to the organisation. They bring fresh ideas and diverse viewpoints, enriching our workplace culture. Their familiarity with technology and ability to adapt quickly to new advancements is particularly beneficial as the digital landscape evolves. Furthermore, our apprenticeship schemes are especially valuable for young people seeking an alternative to university, enabling them to embark on a professional career path without the burden of student debt."
Tracey Veale, Audit Manager
"I have been responsible for supporting the delivery of the apprentice programmes at Audit Wales since 2018. Over that time, we have recruited over 36 AAT apprentices. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch them progress through their AAT journeys, with many going on to successfully complete their chartered accountancy training.
For many apprentices, this is their first experience in a professional environment, which can be challenging in itself. Balancing a full time role with studying for a professional qualification and developing new workplace skills can feel daunting. But what amazes me is the enthusiasm, resilience, and determination our apprentices show. An apprentice can bring fresh ideas, energy, and new ways of thinking, often offering the organisation opportunities to learn from them in return. I am a proud advocate for apprenticeships and the opportunities that they create to those seeking an alternative route to university."
