Steve O’Donoghue is our Director of Finance and Human Resources (HR), lead Director for our Good Practice Exchange and a member of our Executive Leadership Team.  He has extensive experience in corporate governance, risk management and strategic HR, along with his finance background.
Having come out as a gay man in his early 40s, Steve is our senior role model for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) matters and is a member of our LGBT+ staff network, Spectrum.
Steve was previously Head of Resources at the National Assembly for Wales Commission. He led the establishment of the Commission’s Finance function following the Government of Wales Act 2006 and, as a member of the Management Board, positioned the Commission as an award-winning place to work.  Prior to joining the Assembly, he spent 15 years working in local government - in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, the Vale of Glamorgan Council and South Glamorgan County Council.
Steve is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and a keen volunteer in CIPFA circles, including being the inaugural Wales Branch President and serving on CIPFA Council. A Cardiffian, he went to Glan Ely High School and then attended day-release at Coleg Glan Hafren and the University of Glamorgan under his employer’s development programmes. Outside of work, he enjoys life with his partner, Jon, and his daughters and socialising with family and friends.
