Matthew Edwards

Matt is a fluent Welsh speaker from North Wales and was educated at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd in Wrexham. He gained a BSC (Joint Hons) degree in Geography and Political Science from Coventry University before joining the Wales Audit Office and its predecessor organisations, District Audit and Audit Commission in Wales in 1997.  

Matt qualified as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant in 2001 and carried out a number of roles and portfolios that included financial audit work as well as delivering local value for money projects.

Matt is one of four employee members of the Executive Leadership Team and is also a Financial Audit Manager with responsibility for managing a range of audits across a mixed portfolio of clients including central government and a range of local government bodies.

He also chairs the Wales Audit Office’s Financial Audit Delivery Group with responsibility for developing and improving the quality and efficiency of our financial audit work.

Matt lives in Wrexham with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys cycling and running and is an avid follower and part-owner of Wrexham AFC. He is also occasionally found building and painting stage sets at a local youth theatre.
