Jane Holownia

Jane was appointed to the Management Committee in 2016 and is currently our Sector Lead for Local Government, providing strategic leadership for our audit work across this sector. Jane also has responsibility for the development and delivery of local government performance audit across Wales.

Jane has worked in the audit field since 1994, first with District Audit as an education specialist, where she worked on a variety of all Wales education studies and audits. Jane moved into the Audit Commission in 2000 where she concentrated on performance audit methodologies and local delivery. Jane transferred to the Wales Audit Office when it was set up in 2005, taking on responsibility for Corporate Affairs. She was appointed as a Director in 2006 with lead responsibility for the Wales Programme for Improvement in Local Government.

Prior to joining the audit world Jane worked as a European Officer for the Welsh Joint Education Committee, with a particular interest in European education research projects. Before that she worked in the voluntary sector where she was a director at the United Nations Association International Youth Service, with responsibility for identifying overseas community placements for young people from Wales, and for setting up projects for volunteers from overseas to volunteer in Wales. A fluent French speaker, Jane began her career working for the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Jane is married with two teenage children who sometimes, though not often, allow her to indulge in gardening and growing vegetables.
